Look at the candidate’s profile

We encourage our candidate’s to have professional looking profiles, and we encourage employers to leave reviews each time after they hire somebody. This makes sure that you can have as much input on the experience, personality, and the professionalism of each candidate. Here are a couple of green flags to consider

  • The candidate’s face is visible on the picture
  • Their biography expresses their line of work, along with their style of communicating and getting things done
  • The reviews are good
  • They have photos/videos of their past project
  • Business information is listed
  • They have HireToDo account badges, etc

At the end of the day, your gut instinct will come through. If you notice candidate information that is false, please contact us to let us know.

Ask questions

Get to know the candidate and how they work. At this point there is no question that is “dumb”, or “not in the right timing”. Ask away to get a general idea of who you are working with. Here are a couple of good questions to ask

  • Does their job require licensing
  • How can you get a reference from past employers
  • What steps does it take to get the problem solved, etc

Set a plan

A lot of the time, if you have problems, you go into panic mode and you're willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money to get it fixed. Here is where you have to slow down.

  • Tell the candidate what is the problem in as much detail as you can
  • Check to see if he/she can even fix that problem
  • If yes, ask for the general pricing, the time it takes to get it fixed, etc (make sure to check market prices before discussing pricing)
  • Agree on a final price (along with a down-payment before the project is started), we suggest that you minimize the down-payment, to encourage the candidate and to save money in the start
  • Get your agreement in writing
  • If required by law, take care of other legal responsibilities.

Check for your safety-nets

Here are a couple of things you can check, before getting started

  • In the case of something going wrong, make sure you are covered by insurance
  • Contact local authorities to check the permits you need to get the project done
  • Get the permits required by law
  • Check the licensing of the candidate
  • The license to do business, does not yet mean that they are licenced to do that specific type of project
